![]() ![]() It’s no masterpiece of storytelling or character development but it’s plenty enjoyable to watch our old gang get together and go on an adventure. I know the Abrams movie tend to catch a lot of flack from fans but I’ve always really enjoyed 2009. It’s shown as a dramatic and impactful moment and as the destruction of a grand building, but it’s then just kind of forgotten about when it should’ve been treated more like the death of a beloved character. At least to me, 2009 felt like it was largely made for Star Trek fans but updated to modern styles and made a bit more mainstream while Beyond was made for a much more mainstream audience in attempt to give the film series a resurgence.įor me, one thing that really shows how Beyond messed up is the destruction of the Enterprise. I have always enjoyed the Abrams Trek movies as more of just fun romps with the old gang rather than more of the “classic” Star Trek television style of teaching a lesson about geopolitical and moral dealings.īeyond didn’t really have the “fun romp” vibe like 2009 had (and like Into Darkness mostly had). A favourite ship of mine from that game that I spent way too much time playing with my trekkie buddies as a kid. that the Franklin was clearly a nod to the Loknar class from FASA's Star Trek RPG). ![]() Not sure why.ĮDIT: I forgot to mention my favourite part of Beyond. But for some reason, when it was all done, I just kinda sat back and went 'meh.' And I've never wanted to re-watch it either. That was groan-worthy and reminded me of 'Mars Attacks' using country music to kill the aliens as a joke. except using 'Sabotage' to blow up the enemy. And it did feel like a Trek movie for the most part. Maybe it was over-use of the Beastie Boys music, motorbikes that throw up walls like Tron, the Franklin needing a glide start, or the underused villain.īut I thought the Enterprise being torn apart was gorgeously done, and absolutely loved the space station. but for some reason Beyond fell flat with me.
